Prom 46features the music of Zawinul. Not sure that counts as jazz though... ;) http://www.bbc.co.uk/proms/whats-on/2011/august-18/53
ReplyDeleteWell, if it is going to include anything like (or from) 'Stan Kenton conducts the Los Angeles Neophonic Orchestra' , which is an unexpectedly fearsome album (thank you local Oxfam shop), it could hold a few surprises.
ReplyDeletePatrick good spot, thank you. I'm inclined to think that a total of just sixteen minutes of "Zawinul (Arr. Barley)" will make me dream of other opportunities missed here...
ReplyDeleteI couldn't help noticing that Kenton isn't listed as one of the composers in either the website or the book programme. I'd probably have missed that if you hadn't drawn my attention to it!
ReplyDeleteYou're right. Och well. Claire Martin and Jiggs Whigham do get listed as "artists" - both apparently making their Proms debuts.
