NEWS: Nominations Open for the 2014 BASCA British Composer Awards

The 12th annual BASCA British Composer Awards, which celebrate the music of contemporary composers living and working in the UK, and foreign composers who have had works premiered in the UK, are once again approaching. They will be held at Goldsmith's Hall on Tuesday 2nd December. Nominations are now open (closing on the 12th July). The awards now have two 'artistic directors': they are will be Julia Haferkorn, and Ed McKeon of Third Ear.

Nominations are open to any work that was premièred between 1st April 2013 – 31st March 2014. The categories are:

Instrumental Solo or Duo

Three or more instruments written for one player per part

Solo voice(s) unaccompanied or with accompaniment from a single instrument up to orchestra

A cappella or accompanied including choir and orchestra

Wind Band or Brass Band


Stage Works

Works composed for and performed during an act of worship for any religious faith

Sonic Art
For example live electronics, interactive installations, collaborative multi-media performance

Contemporary Jazz Composition

Community or Educational Project
Works will show evidence of both original work by the composer and contributions at a compositional level from a group of participants with whom the composer is working

Making Music Award

Works for voluntary, amateur or youth choirs and ensembles

International Award
