US musician Ed Cherry (b.1954), who was Dizzy Gillespie's guitarist from 1978 to 1993, will be on a rare visit to London on April 10th and 11th. He has also played and recorded with, among others, Paquito D'Rivera, Henry Threadgill, Dr Lonnie Smith, Kenny Barron and Roy Hargrove. Playing two sets a night at Pizza Express Jazz Club on April 10th and 11th. Showtimes are 7 30pm and 10 30 pm. Going from the title of these hows, it looks like he'll be playing music from his most recent album "It's All Goood" (Posi-tone) with Spanish pianist Albert Sanz, Mark Hodgson bass and Stephen Keogh drums. Sebastian writes:
I look forward to hearing Ed Cherry live for the first time on this short visit to London. From what I can see on video, he reminds me of those guitarists whose melodic gifts and musicality always bring - or have only ever brought - me pleasure and joy: Grant Green, Russell Malone, Jim Mullen.... The subtle interaction and dialogue with pianist Albert Sanz will also be fascinating. There are quite a few more videos to check out on Cherry' website (link below).
