Singer and trombonist AUBREY LOGAN, originally from Seattle, is a Berklee graduate, having studied there under Grammy nominee Phil Wilson. She won the Jazz Voice Competition at the Montreux Jazz Festival in 2009, and since then has performed or recorded with Quincy Jones, Burt Bacharach, Josh Groban, Linda Ronstadt, Smokey Robinson and Pharrell Williams. She has just finished a European tour as a featured artist with Scott Bradlee’s Postmodern Jukebox.
Aubrey Logan will make her London debut in her own name next Monday 13th June at Chelsea’s 606 Club, with a trio of Nathan Britton (piano), Lorenzo Bassignani (bass) and Alessandro Lombardo (drums). She explains:
“I have enjoyed significant success in the US where I live but I have set my heart on performing in London on a regular basis. I love the city for its rich culture, eccentricity and above all its jazz heritage.
“I am astounded by how much musical talent there is in London and the level of jazz excellence that exists here. I see it vividly each time I am in a jam session. These musicians really know their craft.
“It goes further for me too. Every time I hear mainstream music on the radio back in the US that appeals to me, it’s British – whether it’s Adele, Amy Winehouse, Duffy or Sam Smith. It’s music made up of a blend of genres – jazz, R&B and pop that doesn’t compromise artistic integrity.
“I don’t know why, but British audiences are quicker to embrace new sounds and styles than American audiences. That’s another reason I am here. I think I fit.
“My show at the 606 next Monday 13th will match my musical style with, I hope, the tastes of the London audience. It’s going to be a mix of jazz standards and some original songs from my forthcoming album mixed with some comedy and tragedy.
“Somebody recently likened me to Bette Midler which was a huge honour. Another said that I am a one woman Broadway! Whatever I am, I can promise a good time!”
